Creamsicle

I enjoy reading soaping blogs.  Not only do you discover some amazing soapers but also make new friends.  One of the other things I also enjoy is learning new tips that you pick up from fellow soapers.  I love to add milk to my soaps and mostly always use goats milk in my recipe.  Lately I have been wanting to add colloidal oatmeal.  It can be a little expensive and my supply has been running low so I was trying to figure out how to do it without breaking the bank.

I tried doing my own but for some reason my grinder does not grind it fine enough.  Imagine how excited I was when I read that you can use Oat Flour and it was just as fine as Colloidal Oatmeal.  I decided to purchase from a local store and try it out on my next batch.

I was thinking of doing something a little more refreshing this time around.  Get a way from the floral fragrances.  I though about using an aloe fragrance but settled instead for "Satsuma".  The vendor describes it as: wonderful blend of orange, mandarin, mango, peach, lime, jasmine, and orange flowers.

It has been sitting in my shelf for nearly a year, so I figured it was time to use it :)

Imagine my surprise when I went to cut this soap.  On first glance I swear I had the dreaded DOS (dreaded orange spots).  You get DOS in your soaps when you use oils that are old, expired.  After a short panic (and a couple of very naughty words (= )...I inspected the bars closely and noticed that it was actually Oat flecks that I was seeing.  It turns out that the Oat Flour I used was not fine enough.  I was a little disappointed since I really wanted a nice smooth bar.  My swirl was perfect.  I reminded me of a creamsicle bar...just wanted to eat it!  yet, it had all these flecks!

Oh well...at least it will be a nice exfoliating bar once it's ready to use.

Thanks for checking out my blog!

HAPPY SOAPING!!!

  1. Like you, I enjoy reading soap blogs for the same reasons you wrote. :-)
Satsuma sounds really yummy and your soap represents the fragrance very well. I love oats in soap and I think the texture adds interest.

  4. Sorry to hear it wasn't quite what you expected Roxana, but it is very beautiful and I'm sure it still works beautifully. The scent sounds wonderful, very spring-like and your swirls are always amazing.

  6. The soap still looks gorgeous, Roxana! Those swirls are beautiful! The oat flour should be a nice additive. Sounds like a great scent, too.
