A Soap He Will Love!

The other day my husband asked me what happened to the soap I have been promising him.  I realized that he has been patiently sitting on the side, watching me make all these "fruity" and "floral" soaps, waiting for his soap.

I decided to finally surprise him and make a nice shaving soap for him.  I knew I had some Kaolin Clay on hand, giving it a nice slip that it will need for shaving.  I also added some Aloe Vera Liquid, and as always my favorite "Goats Milk".

I have also been wanting to try out the "hanger swirl" technique again.  I have tried it twice before.  The first time it did not come out that well, the second time my swirl was really nice but my soap ended up with lye pockets :(.  This would be my third time, and I was hoping my lucky try!

I decided to use "Barbershop 1920s" from Rustic Escentuals.  It is a soft, masculine fragrance.  With notes of amber and rum (as described by the vendor).  I am happy to report that it soaped beautifully!  and I love how my swirls came out.

I am still trying to figure out my new Light Box.  Now that the days are shorter I am not able to make it home in time to take some pics outside.  It's usually already dark, and this Light Box is starting to come in handy.  I just need to fiddle with the lights =)

My husband was really impressed with his new soap, and as he was taking a peek at my recipe I realized that I did not superfat it more than 8%!  oops...I guess that it will not be a shaving soap after all... but a regular soap.  I just need to break it to him.

Thanks for checking out my blog!

HAPPY SOAPING!!!

  3. No doubt he likes it, it's beautiful. Why do you think sf should be up-ed for a shaving recipe? Your light box works great, did you make it?

    1. well I figured that since he was going to be using it in his face the 8% may be too drying. Do you think it should be ok?

I bought the light box at Amazon. I tried making one but it quickly fell apart on me :(

  4. Beautiful soap, Roxana! I'm sure that your hubby will love using it. I like the contrast between the bottom white layer and the gold-and-blue swirled top layer. I still haven't tried the hanger swirl. Your photos look great, too!
