Great Cakes Soapworks, by Amy Warden
So many neat things to read in Amy's blog. I am certainly enjoying it. One of the items that caught my attention was her Soap Challenge. There are four soapy challenges and it looks like it's so much fun. Here is Amy's blog about her first challenge of 2013 :
Great Cakes Soapworks 2013 Soap Challenge
As soon as I saw the first challenged posted I got to work on my soap :)
TIGER STRIPE...
I was so excited. I took all my supplies out and got ready. I even decided to have the Hubby participate. He got to choose the color scheme...hmmmm, more on that critical decision later. :o/
I decided to use "Lick Me All Over" from Nature's Garden. I swear this fragrance is very close to the Sunwarmed Raspberry from Bath and Body Works. I love that scent :)
I mixed my colors...my hubby chose: Pink and Purple Mica's.
I prep my oils and lye water:
Now, my usual stick blender was dirty so I decided to use the one that I reserve for making lotion...and the reason why I only use it for lotion is because it just creates TONS of bubbles!!
Here is a pic with the soap mixed in with the colors...yes, TONS of bubbles! :(
Finally ready to start the Tiger Stripe technique I started to slowly pour the soap in the mold:
The trick is to alternate colors, pouring on top of each other...the other trick is making sure that the thickness of your soap is not too thin and not too thick. I started pretty thin at first. I did not think it would work out. But it did start to get a little thicker as I went on.
and for the final results...
Yes...I know...LOTS of BUBBLES..and wrong color scheme! The pink was way to dark..
I should had tried a lighter pink. I almost blends in with the purple :(
Well...it was good practice and I really enjoyed this challenge! Looking forward to Week Two! Elemental Swirl!!!
Thanks for checking out my blog!
Happy Soaping!!

No, no the pink isn´t to dark at all. I like the contrast. And you got so pretty stripes, much better than I did. I got also bubbles, but I got most out when I mixed the soap with a spoon before pouring.
ReplyDeleteHey Marika, this soap reminds me of yours which you had sent me for our swap!
DeleteThat is true! :D The colors are the same. Maybe that is why I like this soap so much ;)
DeleteWhat an awesome compliment! I love that I can come close to Marika's soap!
DeleteI don't think the pink is too dark, either. It's really eyecatching!

ReplyDeleteI think it's a great looking soap and your tiger stripes are perfect. DId your husband pick those colours thinking they're more feminine?
