Love Spell

I am a little late for Valentine's Soaps but I figured since it's still February that I am somewhat in the ball park.  :)

I recently received a new supply of supplies from Bram Berry.  One of the new fragrances I purchased and was curious to try out was Love Spell.  Not only was it on sale ( a big plus) but it also looked like it was pretty good to soap with.  Here is the description:

"fruity sweet notes of Italian Bergamot, White Lady Peach and Strawberry mixed with middle notes of Apple Blossom, African Tamarind and a touch of Damask Rose"

It smells really nice.  Very fruity and if you like these kind of scents this is a nice one.

I decided to try to soap with Buttermilk.  I have seen posts from fellow soapers and have been a bit curious to try it out.  I measured the Buttermilk and stuck it in the freezer until it turned nice and slushy.  I mixed the lye in carefully and prepared my oils to a nice and cool temperature and was set to go.  This time around I decided to try a new recipe.  I did not add any Olive Oil and instead went with most of it Rice Bran Oil.  I also added Palm Kernel, Coconut, Palm, Castor and Mango Butter.  I'll be interested to see how the bar turns out since I have been used to Olive in all of my soaps.

Now the interesting thing happened...and I am wondering if the Buttermilk had anything to do with it, or the fact that I did not used any Olive Oil.  My mixture was so thin....I usually have to work pretty fast because my batter tends to trace pretty quickly and before you know I'm at heavy trace.  This time around it was VERY fluid.  I made sure to mix it really well, and yet it stayed pretty thin.  I was in swirling heaven, so I decided to try a different technique.  I poured the colors on top of each other little by little.alternating in-between ..here is how it turned out:

Very interesting...

Now I was hoping that my mica would be a bit more dark but it somehow ended up a bit raspberry.  That's OK.  I am happy with the results :)

Thanks for checking out my blog!

HAPPY SOAPING!!!!

  2. Beautiful, Roxana! I love how the swirls turned out! I should try buttermilk in soap. I've got some sitting in the fridge and I was wondering what to do with it. (I'm surprised I even found myself wondering what to do with it because usually my first thought about leftover liquids is, "Can I put it in soap?") I need to freeze it for later - thanks for the idea!

  3. You seem to make me wonder all the time. If you use pomace o.o. which is said to be quick mover, then I suppose omitting it kept your soap thin long time. If you don't use pomace, then I'd like to hear others' opinions on this.
The soap is great, with those circle-like stripes and the colours are just Valentine's. And for ones in love, every day is Valentine's day, isn't it?

    1. Thanks Maja! Glad to know that I can keep you guessing :) he he he. It's such a learning experience for me still and half the time I come across a couple of things and wonder "Is that normal?" :O

I don't use pomace, I use the regular olive oil that I buy in bulk at Costco :)

  4. The swirls are marvelous. But I have no idea why you got so liquid soap. I have also used Love Spell almost a year ago and I just remember that soaping with it was easy.

  6. I am in love with your swirls, Roxana!
I have already tried buttermilk in soap but I haven't had the same experience as yours as usually I have to work fast. But sometimes making soap is mystery isn't it?

    1. Hi Natalia! Thanks for your comments! This is the first time I have tried it, and really was not sure how it would turn out. I am going to try again soon to see if I get the same results
